Terms of service

Welcome to Beam & Borough. These Terms of Service govern your use of beamandborough.co.uk and purchases made through our online store.

This website is operated by HALLOGENT STUDIOS LTD, trading as Beam & Borough. Throughout these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to that company, and “you” refers to the customer or website user.

Please read these terms before placing an order. You may save or print a copy for future reference.

2. Related Policies

The following policies explain specific parts of our service and should be read alongside these terms:

Our Privacy Policy explains how personal information is handled; accepting these terms does not automatically constitute consent to optional marketing or non-essential cookies.

Nothing in these terms or the linked policies limits your statutory consumer rights.

3. Eligibility & Website Use

You must have the legal capacity to enter into a purchase contract. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian should make the purchase on your behalf.

You agree to provide accurate information and use the website lawfully.

You must not:

  • Use another person’s payment details without permission.

  • Submit fraudulent orders or false claims.

  • Introduce malicious software or attempt unauthorised access.

  • Interfere with the website, checkout or other customers’ use.

  • Copy or exploit website content in a way that infringes intellectual property rights.

Where necessary, we may restrict misuse of the website. This does not remove our obligations relating to valid existing orders.

4. Product Information, Colours & Colour Temperatures

Beam & Borough sells lighting. Product pages describe the available items, dimensions, finishes, colours, colour temperatures, bulb or fitting details and other relevant specifications.

Please review the product description, measurements and specifications before ordering. Specifications differ between products, so the details provided for the particular item should guide your selection.

We aim to display colours and finishes accurately, although screen settings and lighting may affect their appearance. This does not excuse supplying an item that is materially different from its description.

Only the items expressly included in the product description form part of the purchase. Decorative items, bulbs or accessories shown in photographs are not included unless stated.

Follow the installation and safety instructions supplied with your lighting. Plug-in lights can usually be set up without installation. Hardwired lights, such as ceiling lights, pendants and some wall lights, should be installed by a qualified electrician in line with the manufacturer’s instructions and UK electrical regulations. Damage caused by improper installation or use is different from an original product fault.

5. Prices, Currency & Payment

Prices are displayed in British Pounds Sterling (GBP) unless the checkout expressly shows otherwise.

The total payable, including applicable taxes, discounts and delivery charges, will be displayed before you place your order.

Standard shipping throughout the UK is free, with no minimum order value.

You may pay using the payment methods displayed at checkout. Availability may depend on the payment provider and transaction.

By submitting payment, you confirm that you are authorised to use the selected payment method. Orders may be subject to payment authorisation and security checks.

We will not charge for optional extras without your agreement.

6. Placing an Order & Contract Formation

To place an order:

  1. Choose your lighting and any available colour or colour temperature.

  2. Add the items to your basket.

  3. Review your selections and correct any errors.

  4. Enter your billing, delivery and contact details.

  5. Review the final total and submit the order with an obligation to pay.

Our checkout and purchase communications are provided in English.

An order acknowledgement confirms that we have received your order. Unless we expressly confirm acceptance earlier, the purchase contract is formed when we send your dispatch confirmation.

If we cannot accept or fulfil an order, we will explain the issue and refund any payment taken for the affected items.

7. Availability & Listing Errors

Products and variants are subject to availability.

If an item becomes unavailable, we will contact you about the available options. We will not substitute a different item without your agreement.

If we discover a material pricing or description error before accepting your order, we will contact you to confirm whether you wish to proceed on the corrected basis or cancel for a refund.

Changes to prices or listings do not retrospectively change an accepted order without your agreement.

8. UK Delivery Coverage

We deliver throughout the United Kingdom only.

Standard shipping is free for all UK delivery addresses, including remote areas and island locations, with no additional shipping surcharge.

Full delivery arrangements are explained in our Shipping Policy.

9. Processing, Delivery & Tracking

Order stage Estimated timeframe
Processing 1–3 business days
Transit after dispatch 4–6 business days
Total estimated delivery 5–9 business days
Tracking details Within 48 hours after dispatch

Our daily order cut-off is:

2:00 PM — (GMT+00:00) Greenwich Mean Time (London)

Orders received before the cut-off are eligible to enter processing that business day. Orders received afterwards, or on a UK public or bank holiday, enter processing on the next business day.

For these terms and our operational policies, business days are Monday to Sunday, excluding UK public and bank holidays. Carrier collection and delivery schedules may differ.

Delivery timeframes are estimates. If a significant delay arises, we will contact you. Your legal rights concerning late delivery remain unaffected.

10. Delivery Addresses & Parcel Responsibility

You are responsible for providing a complete and accurate delivery address.

Contact us promptly if an address needs correcting. Changes may not be possible once dispatch preparations are complete or the parcel has been handed to the delivery partner.

If delivery is unsuccessful, follow the carrier’s redelivery or collection instructions. If a parcel is returned to us, we will explain the available next steps and any proposed arrangements before proceeding.

For deliveries arranged by us, the goods remain our responsibility until they are physically received by you or a person you identify to receive them.

A carrier tracking status alone does not automatically resolve a dispute about whether you received an order. Contact us if a parcel is missing, damaged or incorrectly marked as delivered.

11. Order Changes & Cancellation

Email support@beamandborough.co.uk as soon as possible to request a change or cancellation. Include your order number.

If we can stop the order before dispatch:

  • We will cancel it without a cancellation fee.

  • Any payment taken will be refunded within 7 business days.

If dispatch preparations are complete or the parcel has left, we may be unable to stop delivery. You can still notify us of cancellation and follow the applicable return procedure.

Dispatch does not, by itself, remove a statutory cancellation right.

12. Our 30-Day Return Policy

You may request an eligible return within 30 days of delivery.

For standard change-of-mind returns, lighting products should be:

  • Unused and uninstalled. Unpacking and inspecting the product carefully is acceptable, as is briefly testing a plug-in light to confirm it works.

  • Undamaged and free from scratches, dents, marks, dust, smoke odours and signs of wear.

  • Returned in the original packaging, with all fittings, accessories, bulbs (where supplied) and instructions.

Lighting products can be fragile, so please pack them securely, using the original packaging inside a suitable outer carton where possible.

These conditions do not remove your rights concerning faulty, damaged, incorrect or misdescribed goods.

See our Return & Refund Policy for the full procedure and applicable exceptions.

13. Return Method, Labels & Postage

Returns are by mail only. We do not offer in-store returns.

Contact us to receive the correct return address, instructions and a return label to download and print.

Please send the return within 14 calendar days of notifying us, and keep proof of posting.

Return postage responsibility is as follows:

  • Beam & Borough pays for damaged, faulty, incorrect or misdescribed items.

  • The customer pays for change-of-mind returns, including returns where the wrong colour or colour temperature was selected, where the supplied item matches the order and description.

For returns at our expense, we provide a prepaid downloadable label or another suitable arrangement.

If a customer-paid label is offered, its cost and payment arrangements will be explained before you agree to use it. A downloadable label is not automatically free.

We charge no restocking fee (£0.00).

Our registered office is not automatically the return destination. Please obtain return instructions before posting.

14. Refunds

Eligible refunds are processed within 7 business days after receiving and inspecting the return, subject to applicable statutory deadlines and evidence-of-return requirements.

Refunds are issued to the original payment method, unless you expressly agree to an alternative.

We do not charge refund-processing or restocking fees. Your bank or payment provider may require additional time to display the credit.

Customer-paid change-of-mind return postage is normally not refundable. Standard UK delivery is free, so there is no original standard delivery charge to deduct.

Any lawful deduction for a reduction in the value of the goods, caused by handling beyond what is reasonably necessary to inspect and test them, will be explained. Reasonably unpacking and inspecting a product does not, by itself, justify a deduction.

15. Exchanges

We accept eligible exchange requests within 30 days of delivery, subject to availability.

Exchanges are available for a different colour or colour temperature, where the product is offered in that option. Contact us with your order number and the colour or colour temperature you would prefer. Once the original item has been received and inspected, we will arrange the agreed exchange.

Any price difference or applicable postage cost will be explained before finalising the exchange.

The return-postage responsibilities in Section 13 also apply to exchanges. If the preferred replacement is unavailable, we will discuss an alternative or eligible refund.

16. Damaged, Faulty or Incorrect Goods

Contact us promptly if an item arrives damaged, is faulty, differs from your order or is not as described.

Provide your order number and an explanation. Photographs can help us investigate where reasonably available.

Please do not install, use, repair or alter a product that appears damaged or faulty, and do not return it before contacting us for instructions.

We will arrange an appropriate resolution, which may include a refund, replacement or other remedy required by law. We cover applicable return postage for problems for which we are responsible.

Your rights concerning faulty goods may continue beyond our voluntary 30-day return period.

17. Statutory Cancellation Rights

For most online purchases, UK consumers may notify us of cancellation without giving a reason within 14 calendar days after delivery, then return the goods within a further 14 calendar days.

Where one order contains goods delivered separately, the statutory cancellation period generally runs from delivery of the last goods.

You may unpack and inspect lighting as you reasonably would in a shop, including briefly testing a plug-in light to confirm it works.

Notify us by a clear email sent to support@beamandborough.co.uk, stating your name, order number, the items concerned and your wish to cancel. A particular form is not required.

Statutory refunds are made without undue delay and within the applicable legal deadline. Where permitted, reimbursement may be withheld until we receive the goods or evidence of return, whichever occurs first.

Applicable exceptions, such as genuinely personalised goods, are explained in the Return & Refund Policy. They do not remove rights concerning faulty goods.

18. Privacy & Cookies

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, retain and share personal information, including through Shopify and relevant service providers.

Where required, optional cookies and similar technologies depend on your consent. You can manage available choices through the website’s cookie controls.

You may unsubscribe from marketing emails without stopping necessary order, delivery or refund messages.

19. Intellectual Property & External Services

Website branding, text, graphics and other content are protected by applicable intellectual property rights belonging to us or relevant rights holders.

You may use the website for personal shopping and save information relating to your purchases. Other uses require permission where required by law.

Third-party payment, delivery and external websites may have their own terms. Those terms do not remove our responsibilities under your purchase contract.

Shopify provides our ecommerce platform; your contract to purchase lighting is with HALLOGENT STUDIOS LTD, trading as Beam & Borough.

20. Our Responsibility to You

We are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breach of contract or failure to use reasonable care and skill.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Nothing limits your statutory rights to goods that are of satisfactory quality, fit for their disclosed purpose and as described.

Lighting is supplied for personal consumer use. These terms do not establish a wholesale or resale arrangement.

21. Events Outside Our Reasonable Control

Events such as severe weather or transport disruption may affect fulfilment.

If an event significantly affects your order, we will inform you and take reasonable steps to reduce its impact.

This does not remove your rights concerning non-delivery, late delivery, cancellation or refunds.

22. Complaints & Disputes

If you have a complaint, email support@beamandborough.co.uk with your order number and details of the issue.

We will investigate and work with you towards an appropriate resolution.

Privacy complaints are addressed separately in our Privacy Policy.

These terms do not prevent you from using available consumer advice services or exercising your legal rights.

23. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live.

If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you retain the right to bring proceedings in the courts available to you under applicable law.

Nothing requires you to give up mandatory local consumer rights.

24. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms for future purchases and website use. The revised version will show an updated date.

The terms applicable when your order was accepted will continue to govern that order unless you agree otherwise or a change is required by law.

If a provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
